Sparkle and Shine

Every A/W the shops are full of sequins, they seem to be the perfect items to get you through the festive party season from that LBD for the office Christmas party to hot pants for New Years with the girls; add a sequin or two and bam you have instant festive glamour.

For me however the sequined article is an essential part of my daytime wardrobe and my default option when I need a little pizazz. Here are the top 3 sequined items in my wardrobe;

#3 Bronze sequin waistcoat (H&M); perfect for throwing over dresses and sheer blouses.

#2 Black box cut sequin blazer (George) a surprising supermarket find that has been worn with everything from skinny jeans to maxi dresses. The loose shape meant that it was also a trusted staple of my maternity wardrobe (see below).

#1 Gold sequin Kimono (Primark) the loose shape, mid length sleeves and draped collar make this quite different from the standard sequin blazer and looks fantastic over black dresses (see below).

For me the beauty of sequins is that they never really date and because the key is not to over accessorise and to couple with plain block colours they are actually very easy to wear whilst having maximum style impact.
If you are thinking of introducing sequins into your look, check out my 3 top buys on the high street this Autumn;

#3 This sequin gold blazer from H&M (£34.99) is both versatile and affordable. Try wearing with skinny jeans for easy daytime glamour.

#2 These sequin skinny trousers from River Island (£40) come in both black and gold and create a striking silhouette for slender legs. Wear with a sheer blouse or plain black vest to keep it simple.

Animal Sequin skirt.
#1 This skirt from Warehouse (£55) combines two of my favourite fashion loves; sequins and animal print. Wear with black opaques as teamed with the flattering shape this will elongate legs and sit well on both boyish shapes and curvy frames as well as highlighting the detailing on the skirt itself

And if you really want to push the boat out then take inspiration from these ladies who defiantly know how to rock the sequin to create maximum dramatic effect;

#3 Jessica Alba in Philip Lim: this blazer dress in interesting in itself but add the sequins and it's totally original.

#2 Blake Lively in Balmain; LBD with structured shoulders and added glam of sequins, what's not to love?

#1 Angelina Jolie in Versace: Green truly is serene in this sequined number. It is glamorous, elegant and sexy all at the same time.

So go ahead and sparkle and shine.
